Carol Pemberton
Music DirectorAs the founder of Black Voices, Carol has used her diverse musical experience in developing the group's artistic mission. Like many of the singers she looks up to, her first musical experiences were nurtured in the black church where her father was the minister. Born into a very musical family, Carol played cello, piano and a variety of wind instruments, playing her saxophone being her latest hobby. However, she proudly admits her weakness for the beauty of the human voice. Her happiest times? "When Black Voices speaks through its music to any audience, and you see and feel the messages being received."
Celia Wickham-Anderson
Celia was destined to be in Black Voices, the path that led her to the group confirms this. An accomplished singer and musician, brought up in the Christian faith, Celia led her own group and was also a member of the London Adventist Chorale. Celia leads workshops on behalf of Black Voices, a skill she discovered upon joining the group. She also runs and works with community choirs across the UK.
Jennifer Wallace

Jennifer started singing in her local church choir at a very early age. Her obvious talent enabled her to sing with the Midlands Christian Community Choir all over the UK. She has worked with the London Community Gospel Choir, directing and arranging for MCCC, Motown band, The Dictionary of Soul, and was a guest performer in the musical, 125th Street and she also toured Europe with the West End show 'The Official Tribute to the Blues Brothers'. Jennifer still performs with local bands in Birmingham but is excited to have joined Black Voices, and enjoys developing her talents further in her new found love of a cappella.
Sandra Francis
Singing has always been a great passion for Sandra. From an early age, she sang with her family and in church, where she learned to sing harmonies. She has sung with many Birmingham-based bands, including Roy Gee Energee, a funk and soul band. Central to Black Voices' sound and with Carol, an original member, she has travelled the world and seen the group blossom from its informal beginnings into the internationally acclaimed quintet that it is today.
Shereece Storrod

At age 17, Shereece embarked on her first tour with Black Voices in Germany. Sne is the youngest member of the team, and perhaps the most talented. She graduated from the University of Westminster with a BA (Hons) in Commercial Music in 2001, became a permanent member of the group and has never looked back. Shereece has always been involved in music, dance and theatre, both through study and performance. Shereece is a talented singer/ songwriter and arranger. She teaches voice, runs Harrow Youth Gospel Choir, and leads workshops for Black Voices, Harrow Music Service and The Prince's Trust.
Most recently Shereece completed a Master of Music in Songwritng at Bath Spa University and passed with Merit. With this she hopes to realise her life-long ambition to be a topline writer for the Top 40.Evon Nelson
Evon has been singing since childhood. She initially sang with her family 'The Nelson Sisters', in church. She entered many talent shows locally and nationally and was always successful, which naturally boosted her confidence as a singer. Not content just to sing at weddings and funerals, Evon was always looking for another challenge. A very busy qualified nurse, in 2001, she auditioned for Black Voices and has not looked back since.
Genevieve Sylva

Genevieve is a singer/songwriter. Steeped in Gospel, she enjoyed singing with the church mass choir but loves the challenge that singing with Black Voices brings. Genevieve comes from a talented family of musicians. She is also a graduate in Music from Wolverhampton University, holds a PGCE and teaches music in secondary schools. She also leads workshops for Black Voices. Genevieve is a popular session singer and is well on her way to becoming a notable Gospel singer!
Monique Reid

The term ‘born to sing’ describes Monique. Born to Reverend Clement and Missionary Sonia Reid, she started singing at the tender age of three alongside her siblings. From this family group Monique went on to become an accomplished singer in her own right. Her credits include working with Michael Bolton, Beverley Knight, Steel Pulse, US3, and many more.
Monique is also a talented songwriter, vocal tutor and arranger. She first joined Black Voices in 1998. Taking time out from singing to obtain a Law Degree, Monique forged a successful career in law, however her love and passion for singing always takes centre stage.
